Good Housekeeping Award

1. It is the sincere wish of the Solanco fair Association to maintain livestock areas in a clean, neat, and safe condition for the enjoyment of Fair patrons, therefore a good housekeeping award has been initiated and will be awarded to the exhibitors best displaying these qualities.

2. The award will be based on the following point system:

Cleanliness of Animal 20 points

Cleanliness of Bedding 20 points

Keeping Feed and Supplies Presentable 10 points

Keeping Equipment Clean and Neat 10 points

Keeping Aisles Clean 20 points

Courtesy to Fair Patrons 20 points

100 points

3. The following premiums will be paid to the exhibitors receiving good housekeeping award:

Color Breeds, Wednesday, 10 AM     Holsteins, Thursday, 10 AM

RULES

1. ENTRY – An exhibitor may enter two animals in any one class and receive premiums for both animals. All animals entered in the group must be shown in their respective individual classes.

  • A. Any exhibitor is eligible to enter the open class.

  • B. Only 4-H and FFA members may show in Junior Division classes (Dept.10). Department 10 entries must have a signed statement to verify that entries qualify for this class. FFA members signed by Voc. Ag teacher and 4-H members signed by 4-H leader.

  • C. Junior Open (Dept. 11) – this class is for all persons 19 and under not in 4-H or FFA.

  • D. Deadline for entries is September 5, 2008. Entries should be given to Cindy Bollinger, phone 717-786-3963. Late entries may be refused. Entry forms must be used.

  • E. Substitutions will be allowed within class only, after entry deadline.

    2. TIME – All animals for exhibition must be placed in the buildings between 1 and 8 PM Tuesday. All animals must be washed and clipped before entering the fair grounds. All animals unclipped or excessively dirty will be refused entry. Only touch up clipping will be permitted. Health and registration papers must accompany animals at time of arrival. No cattle may be removed before 10 PM on Friday. Cattle removed prior to this time without permission will forfeit premium.

    3. CARE OF ANIMALS – Exhibitors must themselves see to their delivery, and are likewise required to attend to their animals while on exhibition.

    4. Health

  • A. An animal owner or caretaker’s verification of Veterinarian-Client-Patient relationship form must be presented upon arrival at the fair.

  • B. Official identification of animals is required.

  • C. All animals must be free of infectious and contagious diseases and a statement of this is required on the certificate of veterinarian inspection.

  • D. Pennsylvania Cattle:
              1. There are no current intrastate cattle movement laws for exhibition.
              2. A 2006 Certificate of Veterinary Inspection dated March 1 or later is required.
              3. It is strongly recommended that all cattle entering the show be currently immunized against IBR, P13, and BVD. Rabies vaccination recommended. All drug and vaccine label directions should be followed, including but not limited to milk and slaughter withdrawal periods.

  • E. Out of State Cattle
              1. For Brucellosis: Tests will not be required if the animal originates from a certified brucellosis free herd. Animals originating from a brucellosis free state may enter without prior brucellosis tests.
              2. Before any animals are imported from a class a state-owner must check with the bureau for requirements.
              3. Animals 15 months of age and older shall be tuberculin test negative within 60 days of the opening date of the show.
              4. Animals imported for exhibition and sale shall meet the same requirements as animals imported for dairy and breeding purposes which include the following:
                   a. Brucellosis test eligible animals shall be those unvaccinated animals over eight months and those calfhood-vaccinated animals over 14 months of age.
                   b. Cattle are exempt from test if they originate from and are members of a certified brucellosis free herd.
                   c. For cattle and buffalo imported from a herd in a free state, test eligible animals shall be tested negative within 30 days prior to entry.
              5. For Tuberculosis: Tests will not be required if the animal originates from an accredited tuberculosis free herd.
              6. Before any animals are imported from a class a state-owner must check with the bureau for requirements.
              7. Cattle except those imported for slaughter purposes only shall originate from, and be members of, or natural additions to, a herd that has been blood tested and negative within 15 months of entry but prior to 120 days of shipment.
              8. The individual test eligible animals to be imported shall be blood test negative within 30 days of shipment.
              9. The herd test dates and certified free herd number shall appear on the health certificate.
    ~ Tuberculosis test eligible animals shall be cattle over 15 months of age.
    ~ A test will not be required if the animals originate from and are members of an accredited tuberculosis free herd.
    ~ Test eligible cattle shall be test negative 60 days of entry.
              10. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection required within 30 days of entry into fair. It is strongly recommended that all cattle entering the show be currently immunized against IBR, P13, and BVD. Rabies vaccination recommended. All drug and vaccine label directions should be followed, including but not limited to milk and slaughter withdrawal periods.

    5. Feed and Bedding - Exhibitors must furnish all feed and bedding.

    6. Liability - Each exhibitor will be soley responsible for any loss, injury, or damage done or arising from any animal exhibited by him or her, if such loss damage is due to negligence on his or her part. Any individual, spectator, or patron handling animals without the consent of the owner is liable for all damage or injury done to themselves or animals.

    7. Ages - The age of all animals shall be reckoned from date of birth to first day of September 2008. Any calf born after May 31, 2008 will not be eligible for any class.

    8. JUDGING – The Color Breeds will be shown starting at 10 AM Wednesday. Holsteins will be shown starting at 10 AM Thursday. The cattle on Wednesday will be shown in two shows that will be proceeding simultaneously. Decision of the judges will be final in all cases. If there is no competition in a class the exhibitor shall receive the ribbon merited and prize money listed in the premium list.

    9. OWNERSHIP – All animals must be owned by the exhibitor 30 days prior to this show and registration or transfer papers must be on hand for inspection at the time you bring animals in. In case of delay or transfer a statement from the breeder will be acceptable.

    10. PREMIUM – 4-H and FFA members may receive premiums according to placing in both Open and Junior Division classes in the event that there are others in the Open Class beside 4-H and FFA members. If there are only 4-H and FFA members in the Open Class they shall receive Open Class premiums only. Department 11 will use same premium list as Department 10.

    11. ENTRY FEE - All adult entries must pay an entry fee of $1.00 per animal to be submitted with entry form.

    12. GROUPS DEFINED:

  • A. PRODUCE OF DAM – Shall consist of two females, any age, from one dam. Dam to be named. Exhibitor need not be the owner of animal shown.

  • B. OPEN GET – Shall consist of 3 females, any age, all by one sire. Sire to be named. Exhibitor need not be the owner of all the animals in the group.

  • C. BEST 3 FEMALES – Any age, bred and owned by exhibitor.

  • D. DAM-DAUGHTER – Any age, need not be owned by same exhibitor.

  • E. DAIRY HERD – 3 cows that have freshened, all owned by one exhibitor.

  • F. BEST UDDER – One $5.00 premium will be awarded to each milking class provided there are at least two animals per class.

  • G. PREMIER AWARDS
    a. Premier Exhibitor Award – shall be made to the exhibitor credited with the most points or not to exceed six animals owned and exhibited in the open single classes. All exhibitors will be eligible for this award and no entry form is required. In the case of multiple ownership, all points awarded for Premier Exhibitor will be credited to the individual, partnership or syndicate who is exhibiting the animal.
    b. Premier Breeder Award - shall be made to the breeder of animals credited with the most points on not to exceed six animals in the open classes, exhibited by himself and/or other exhibitors. No entry form is required and the winner of this award need not be an exhibitor at the show. When determining the Premier Breeder, the breeder of the animal shall be the name of the person, farm unit, or partnership as is appears on the registry certificate.
    c. There must be at least 20 animals exhibited per breed to be eligible for premier breeder and exhibitor.
