RULES

1. All exhibitors of swine must reside in the Solanco or Penn Manor School Districts. Oxford, Octorara, and Lampeter-Strasburg will be on a first serve basis.

2. Exhibitors must have passed their 8th birthday but not have passed their 19th birthday by January 1 of the year of the fair. In the event the individual does not complete high school, he or she may not exhibit past their 18th birthday.

3. All entries will be entered free of charge. All entries must be reported to the chairman on or before September 7, 2008. The chairman may refuse late entries.

4. All exhibitors must be present when animals are to be shown unless approved by chairman.

5. All exhibits must be entered from 5 – 9 PM, Tuesday evening, and should not be removed until 10 PM Friday.

6. All swine must have STATE health papers. No evidence of any communicable disease or unthriftiness.

7. A copy of health papers for the chairman to keep is mandatory. No exceptions. Papers will not be returned.

8. All exhibitors must have a completed and signed “Animal Owner or Caretakers Verification of Veterinarian – Client – Patient relationship” form that will be collected at check-in.

9. Each exhibitor must furnish his own feed and feed trough and also see that his animals are fed and properly cared for during the fair. No straw should be used for bedding. Sawdust will be provided.

10. Animals must be raised and owned by the exhibitor at least 70 days before the fair.

11. No exhibitor may enter more than 2 hogs.

12. Any hog under 210 or over 270 lbs. may not be shown.

13. Each exhibitor must present an exhibitor number Tuesday night to be eligible to show.

14. Body clipping will not be permitted. Ear and tail clipping are still acceptable.

Good Housekeeping Award

1. It is the sincere wish of the Solanco fair Association to maintain livestock in a clean, neat, and safe condition for the enjoyment of Fair patrons, therefore a good housekeeping award has been initiated and will be awarded to the exhibitors best displaying these qualities.

2. The award will be based on the following point system:

Cleanliness of Animal 20 points

Cleanliness of Bedding 20 points

Keeping Feed & Supplies Presentable 10 points

Keeping Equipment Clean & Neat 10 points

Keeping Aisles Clean 20 points

Courtesy to Fair Patrons 20 points

100 points

3. The following premiums will be paid to the exhibitors receiving good housekeeping award:

1st $20 2nd $15 3rd $10

Showmanship Contest

1. Exhibitors may be shown in the following classes as determined by their age as of September 1:

Beginner Classes, 8 - 12 years of age; 13 – 15 years of age; Senior classes; 16 years of age and older.

Premiums for each class will be:
1st - $15     2nd - $12     3rd - $9     4th- $8     5th - $7
