Judging – Wednesday – 1 PM

RULES

1. All exhibitors of sheep must reside in Solanco, Lampeter-Strasburg, or Penn Manor School District. Exhibitors must have passed their 8th birthday but not have passed their 19th birthday by January 1 of the year of the fair. In the event the individual does not complete high school, he or she may not exhibit past their 18th birthday.

2. Each exhibitor must report their lamb ID number to the committee by June 15th to be eligible to show.

3. All exhibitors must be eight years old or older as of January 1.

4. All entries will be entered free of charge. All exhibits must be reported to the committee before September 1, 2008, with animal ID numbers. Entries may be called or faxed.

5. All sheep must be entered at the fair grounds from 6 PM to 9 PM Tuesday evening and remain on the fair grounds until 10 PM Friday.

6. NO MORE THAN 2 LAMBS will be accepted per exhibitor. Two lambs may be sold.

7. No exhibitor may enter more than one exhibit for competition in any one class except where designated.

8. HEALTH

     A. No sheep showing clinical signs of contagious, infectious or external parasitic disease including foot rot and sore mouth will be admitted to the show.

     B. All sheep must be identified by an official USDA/A.P.H.I.S. ear tag (scrapie tag).

     C. The flock of origin, including sheep consigned to the show, shall be examined by an accredited veterinarian. The veterinarian must prepare the official health chart (AAI-13) and must state on the health certificate that he examined the entire flock and found no contagious, infectious, or external parasite disease and has been known not to be exposed to scrapie. The date of the examination must also appear on the health certificate.

     D. All exhibitors must have a completed and signed “Animal Owner or Caretakers Verification of Veterinarian – Client – Patient Relationship” form that will be collected at check-in.

9. Any animal of unthrifty nature, unsuitable condition, or which cannot be satisfactorily handled under show conditions must be removed from the fair grounds.

10. Each exhibitor must furnish his own feed and trough and see that his animals are fed and cared for during the fair. Shavings will be provided for bedding.

11. Each exhibitor must be present and have charge of his or her animal at the time of judging. If an exhibitor cannot control their own animal, a 4-H or FFA member may assist them. The owner must be at the head.

12. All lambs will be weighed on the same set of scales on Tuesday evening. Exhibitors must be present at weigh-in.

13. All lambs must weigh at least 75 pounds to qualify for show.

14. Immediately after the show, exhibitors must designate lambs to be sold in the sale.

15. All lambs must be owned and on feed by the exhibitor by June 15, 2008.

16. The lamb sale will be conducted on Friday evening.

17. All exhibitors will be expected to help with clean up on Saturday morning following the fair.

Good Housekeeping Award

1. It is the sincere wish of the Solanco Fair Association to maintain livestock areas in a clean, neat, and safe condition for the enjoyment of Fair patrons, therefore a good housekeeping award has been initiated and will be awarded to the exhibitors best displaying these qualities.

2. The award will be based on the following point system:

Cleanliness of Animal 20 points

Cleanliness of Bedding 20 points

Keeping Feed and Supplies Presentable 10 points

Keeping Equipment Neat and Clean 10 points

Keeping Aisles Clean 20 points

Courtesy to Fair Patrons 20 points

100 points

3. The following premiums will be paid to the exhibitors receiving good housekeeping award:

1st $20 2nd $15 3rd $10

NOTE: Any exhibitor showing a lamb will receive $9.00 per animal if they do not place in their class.

4-H and Vocational Sheep Showmanship Contest

4-H and FFA members may show an animal in the showing contest provided it has been carried as a project and is owned by the exhibitor. Age determined as of January 1.
